It seems this depends on how the application is deployed. There are 3 main options here:

  1. fully peer to peer
    Every person runs a conductor and loads the app (which gets packed and distributed). Nodes talk to eachother (possibly through a bootstrap node). This is essentially free
  2. Run a publicly exposed node with the (web)app (and point a DNS record to it). Clients talk to this node. For redundancy node can be clustered like the previous option. Here cost is mainly hosting these public nodes e.g. servers in hetzner.
  3. Upload to holohosting. Cost here is difficult since hosters can choose to host your app or not. Of course its cheaper than renting servers. The hosting platform doesn't seem to be open to the general public though currently
